THE ACADEMY BULLETIN

NEWA is Now Able to Schedule Exams!

6/14/2020

As of today, New England Wine Academy is finally able to schedule exams for all candidates who have had delayed exam dates. These include students who began studies as early as February. There are now a number of exam dates available for students to choose from - see list below or in the weekly emails/blogs.

There is a definite backlog of exams that need to be scheduled, but only as of June 17th, is the State of CT allowing restaurants and related businesses to open and host gatherings of limited size. Therefore, it will now be possible to conduct in-person exams. Prior to this we were not able to conduct the exams as it was not possible to get together in a designated space. Your patience and understanding with this is appreciated.

Also, New England Wine Academy wants to assure its current students that there will be no disruption to online studies. All existing and scheduled class sessions are taking place, and if you are participating in a current class, the listed exam date for that class will still apply.

Newly added exam dates:
July 11th
  • Level 1 Wine and Level 1 Spirits will take place at 9:15am
  • Level 2 Wine and Level 2 Spirits will take place at 10:30am

August 1st
  • Level 1 Wine and Level 1 Spirits will take place at 9:15am
  • Level 2 Wine and Level 2 Spirits will take place at 10:30
  • Level 3 Wine will take place at noon

All exam dates beyond this are attached to the respective class offerings, and student candidates should reference their specific class for those dates.

Any current candidate can choose the exam date that works for them, but please note the registration deadlines to participate in an exam. WSET requires 15 business days notice for all exam registrations, so it is not possible to be scheduled once the exam registration date has passed and the candidate will need to wait until the next exam date (these are generally held monthly, pending need).
  • Registration deadline for July 11th exams is June 19th.
  • Registration deadline for August 1st exams is July 10th.
Candidates should make their exam date intention clear to NEWA by emailing:
[email protected] prior to the exam registration deadline.

Additionally, we recognize that it has been some time since some students have taken their classes, and therefore a review session will be planned for each course. The goal here is to provide students with the opportunity to ask questions and clarify content that may appear on the exams. The session will begin with a tasting at the SAT level for the respective class, with the rest being a review session and an open format discussion. Students are encouraged to prepare any questions ahead of time. The format will be a Zoom meeting and will be held on the following dates to correspond with up-coming exams:
July 11th Exams
  • Tuesday July 8 - Level 1 Wine - 7pm (1 hour)
  • Tuesday July 8 - Level 2 Wine - 8pm (1 hour)
  • Wednesday July 9 - Level 1 Spirits - 7pm (1 hour)
  • Wednesday July 9 - Level 2 Spirits - 8pm (1 hour)
August 1 exams
  • Tuesday July 28 - Level 1 Wine - 7pm (1 hour)
  • Tuesday July 28 - Level 2 Wine - 8pm (1 hour)
  • Wednesday July 29 - Level 1 Spirits - 7pm (1 hour)
  • Wednesday July 29 - Level 2 Spirits - 8pm (1 hour)
  • Level 3 Wine exams for August 1 will be coordinated with the students in the next week or two, and will most likely happen 1-2 weeks prior tot he exam.

As a reminder all online material is available to access for one year from the start of you class, and as always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to NEWA and we will be happy to discuss. Cheers
