If you wish to receive information on this class or any other information from NEWA, please email [email protected] Have you ever wished you knew more about beer? Can you tell the difference between an IPA and a pilsner? A brown ale and a porter? WSET are proud to have launched our first-ever beer courses. Our exciting new Level 1 Award in Beer is a beginner-level qualification for anyone interested in learning the basics about lagers, ales, sours and more. Through a short and interactive course, you’ll learn the foundations of beer production, styles, service, food pairing and tasting. Course Description The WSET Level 1 Award in Beer provides a great introduction to the world of beer. Learning through sight, smell and taste, you'll become familiar with a range of beer styles and how they are made. If you work with beer, you’ll be able to answer customer queries with confidence and provide helpful recommendations. If you’re learning for fun, you’ll feel inspired to explore new styles and know how to get the most out of every glass. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin. What's covered?
Assessment The exam consists of 30 multiple choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes. To pass you must correctly answer 70% of the questions. This qualification is Ofqual regulated. Entry Requirements There are no entry requirements for this qualification – it is suitable for complete beginners. You must be of legal drinking age in the country where you are attending the course to participate in any alcohol tasting. However, this is not a barrier to successfully completing the qualification. Please note Thomas Hooker Brewery is the location of the in-person classes/exams, but classes are hosted by New England Wine Academy, which is a WSET Approved Program Provider and is solely responsible for all questions and bookings. For inquiries, please contact - [email protected]. In-person Class Delivery "In-person" is defined as classes that are held in the classroom and under a traditional classroom setting. The minimum attendance to run a session is 8 students. If this minimum is not met - New England Wine Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone the session and refund all tuition payments. Hybrid Class Delivery "Hybrid" is defined as classes that are held over a virtual meeting platform, such as Zoom, by a designated instructor. These courses will have a specific start and end dates, with set times for the delivery of class sessions. Generally speaking, there are no limits to student attendance, but New England Wine Academy does reserve the right to cancel or postpone a course if at least a minimum attendance is not met. Online Class Delivery "Online" is defined as classes that are administered via remote learning platforms, and are generally held with no set class times or live instructor. WSET Online classes are conducted using the Canvas platform, and there is no minimum student level. Students book through New England Wine Academy, follow the online sessions at their own pace, and take their exam with New England Wine Academy on the assigned dates. There is a WSET approved instructor assigned to each session, and this instructor will give feedback on quizzes, tasting notes, etc. The material for online classes is exactly the same as for in-person classes, but the administration of that material is delivered via an online platform and is available to students for a year after the class start date. You can study at your own pace over the course period, with no set dates/times for classwork, but rather a combination of weekly assignments and feedback from instructors to compliment the coursework. EXAMS WSET is offers level 1 and level 2 exams with the option to take exams online or in-person. When you check out for a class enrollment, you will be asked to make a selection as to the exam setting you wish to pursue. There is a small additional charge for the remote invigilation process as there is an additional third-party system used for control and validation purposes. Please follow this link to review the Candidate Remote Invigilation document prior to making a final decision. Students taking a Remote Invigilation exam (online) must be aware that they will receive multiple advance emails with instruction on how to perform a systems check, as well as the link to the exam. Students must review the system check procedure and make NEWA and/or WSET aware of any issues that may prevent them from taking an RI exam on the specified day. Failure to do this may result in an inability to sit the exam on the scheduled date, and could result in a forfeiture of the exam fee. WSET does provide a comprehensive Remote Invigilation Guide, which can be reviewed here. Although it is highly recommended that candidates take their exams on the assigned course date, from time to time life happens. Candidates do have up to 1 year from the course start date to complete their exams - either in-person or remotely. Please review all of the terms and conditions found at the bottom of this page, and ask any questions before enrolling. By enrolling in a class you acknowledge and accept all policies, terms, and dates associate with your course. Please note, cancelling or rescheduling an exam once your class has commenced, will result in a $35 administrative charge.
Cancelling or rescheduling an exam within 16 working days of the exam date will result in the $35 administrative fee plus a new exam fee (this is the same as the re-sit fee for your respective class and exam type). We apologize for this inconvenience but WSET is fairly strict with its registration deadlines and these time frames are out of our control. We work with our students to ensure they are aware of all dates, but please mark your calendars with all relevant dates/times. Let us know as early as possible if you are unable to make and exam for any reason. If you book a class past the registration deadline, you will be placed in the next available class.
