WSET EXAM DETAILS
FAQs for In-Person WSET Exams with New England Wine Academy:
- NEWA offers in-person exams on the first Saturday of most months, except when they overlap with holidays or similar events.
- The main location for exams is the Thomas Hooker Brewery space at the Colt Building in Hartford, CT (not the Thomas Brewery in Bloomfield).
- Level 1 exam begin at 9:30am ET - please arrive by 9:15. The exam will take up to 45 minutes.
- Level 2 exams begin at 10:30am ET - please arrive by 10:15. The exam will take up to 1 hour.
- Level 3 exam begins at 11:30am ET - please arrive by 11:15. The exam will take approximately 3 hours, in total.
- We sometimes combine resources and move exam time up, depending on the number of invigilators we have available, so please check your exam email for the correct time. You can also contact us if there is any question on exam times.
- NEWA will provide pencils for all exams. We provide glassware for all L3 tasting exams, but students are allowed to bring their own glasses if they choose.
- Since 2020 WSET has made remote exams available for level 1 and level 2 candidates. This allows students to take the exam anywhere they choose.

- Students may book another remote exam time outside of our standard exam dates/times. Please contact us to do so. Additional charges will apply - please refer to our policy pages for this information.
- All Level 1 exams begin at 9:30am ET (New York time zone). The exam will take up to 45 minutes.
- All Level 2 exams begin at 10:30am ET (New York time zone). The exam will take up to 1 hour.
- Students must log in and take the exam during the assigned time window otherwise the exam will not be available. Please read and review the policies for missing an exam. NEWA is not responsible for technical issues or missed exam times.
- Students taking remote exams need to perform a systems check ahead of time to make sure they have the correct connections and are prepared on the actual exam date/time. Failure to do and any resulting technical issues are solely the responsibility of the student.
- All students are encouraged to read and review the WSET information page on remote invigilation to ensure they are prepared and capable for taking the remote exam. This should be done prior to registering for a class. If there are any questions please reach out to NEWA as early in your class and exam process as possible so we can troubleshoot any issue.
